BOUTIQUE HOTEL

Project: The Haveli of Alwar, located in Rajasthan, India, was built in the 1400s. The Haveli of Alwar is one of the nine heritage properties owned by an investor to convert them into boutique hotels. For this project, the client wanted to convert the Haveli into an invitee only boutique hotel which to occupies no more 10 to 15 hosts.

Solution: This project required extensive structural modification because the spaces' existing dimensions were small to accommodate spatial functions. After understanding the spatial relationships and the existing climate of Alwar, the concept emerged to design inside outsides relation where the spaces would bleed into the courtyard with water bodies as a visual ornament. It also played an essential role in designing the movement within the hotel. With this concept in mind, the hotel consists of three living quarters with three different floors with different functions, a floating restaurant, and a swimming pool.

Outcome: By introducing water as an element within the courtyards, we learned the influence of the water on the old construction, structure, and materials.
